A Few Pictures from our First Trip of the 2018-19 Season

by Dec 17, 2018On the Road

We recently completed a two week trip from Dakar to Guinea-Bissau. The trip was filled with incredible sights, lots of laughs, and some seriously fun riding. We were once again blessed with a great group. Here are a few pictures in no particular order.

Krista took this great picture of the boats moored between Dakar and the Island of Ngor.

Another picture of the boats in Ngor, this time by Kelly.

Our first day of riding took us through some beautiful landscapes, this one dotted with towering palm trees.

Relaxing next to the mangroves near Kafountine in the Casamance, Senegal’s southern province.

Zach getting off the main road and cruising through the quiet country roads of the Sine-Saloum.

Matt took this picture on a crisp morning leaving Bazouk Du Saloum and heading back to the mainland in the Sine Saloum Delta of Senegal.

Rural West Africa traffic jam.

Every now and then we take a break from motorized transport for a bit of physical exercise.

Time to relax on the island of Rubane in the Bijagos archipelago.

The bikes looking pretty parked at Chez Pierre in Oussouye.

A little afternoon pick-me-up with Senegal’s famous café Touba.

Zach is in there somewhere, way up in the roots of Bantam Wora, which is actually six massive fromagier trees that have fused together.

Time to explore: following a trail into the jungle on an island in the Casamance.

Yes, the water really is that color in the Bijagos archipelago of Guinea-Bissau.

On the day of American thanksgiving we were treated to this incredible home-cooked Chicken Yassa from Khadi’s place in Abené.

Every now and then we drink something a bit fancier than a beer on our trips. This was a caipirinha tropical on the island of Rubane in Guinea-Bissau.

Crossing the Gambia River from Bara to Banjul, always an experience.

A typical sunset at Keur Saloum in Senegal.

Relaxing on the beach after our most challenging day of riding, through the jungle sand track that leads from the smuggler’s crossing to Abené.

We have since had another trip since this one, and we are now gearing up for our January 13th 8-day-trip from Dakar to Ziguinchor and back. Want to exchange the winter cold for a West African adventure? Here are the details for that trip.
