This is a long overdue video introduction to the bikes that we use on our riding trips in West Africa. The reason I say “bikes” and not “scooters” is because these “bikes” are more of a hybrid, which Matt pointed out in this piece he wrote some years ago.
Despite the fact that there are gears to shift, our bikes are very easy to operate. Shifting gears does not require a clutch and you’ll find that you are rarely shifting at all once we get moving. The throttle is a simple twist-and-go, and the bikes are very difficult to stall out.
We do an orientation with the bikes before the start of every trip, but we hope that this video will help shed some light on their operation:
